Holy Ginormous Gathering of Geekery, Batman!

Posted by jarret on November 8, 2009 in events, life |
…or, Jarret’s ComicCon 2009 report. ComicCon (formally known as the Central Canada Comic Con, or C4, clicky) has grown leaps and bounds the last few years, exploding out of the confines of the tiny Victoria Inn and onto the vast expanses of the Convention Center’s entire second floor. Much like last year’s ComicCon (clicky) the place was chock-a-block full of games, toys, demonstrations, artists, cars, and being that it was also Halloween, that meant scores of superheroes, video game characters, ...continue reading

Here We Go Around…

Posted by jarret on October 9, 2009 in animals, sports |
Run, run around, yeah… Ah, good old Van Halen. But that’s not what I’m talking about today. I use the “around” word literally here. For those of you that know our dog, Kira, you know that she likes to run around in circles when she gets excited. You know, like she’s herding something. We long thought Kira had herding instinct in here. When she was younger, she used to circle around Cola in the backyard and lie down in the grass, waiting for her moment to spring forward. Or, she’d ...continue reading

Dear Uncle Bill…

Posted by jarret on October 2, 2009 in tech |
… I’m going to take the plunge. Now, I’m sure you haven’t got any idea what I’m talking about, and really, I may not either, since I “took the plunge” three-and-a-half years ago, and life’s been great ever since, nor do I actually have an Uncle Bill. So what’s up? The Uncle Bill I refer to is none other than Bill Gates, founder of Microsoft, who, among IT circles and in organizations with a lot of Windows machines and servers, has been affectionately – or in a way with a lot ...continue reading

‘No Doubt’ about it…

Posted by jarret on July 14, 2009 in events, music |
… last night’s concert was an amazing show. Featuring warm up act Bedouin Soundclash, special guests Paramore, and headliners No Doubt, the concert brought the wide range of aural assault. While the concert itself was fantastic, there were also some lessons to be learned about the whole experience. On with the explanation / show review… Lesson #1: Come Prepared Stephanie signed up with the No Doubt Fan Club to get special floor tickets that allowed us entry to the venue before the general ...continue reading

Posted by jarret on June 23, 2009 in events, movies |
So Steph and I got to go to the new Transformers movie on Monday night (THANK YOU ADAM WEST @ HOT 103!!). After 2 hours of waiting in line, we got our favorite seats (middle of the first row of the main deck), and settled in for the action! There were two people that dressed up in Optimus Prime and Bumblebee outfits. Pretty cool. Now, on to the movie.I was going to do a giant long review and talk about the whole story of the movie, but then I figured I'd let y'all see it first-hand.That being said, ...continue reading

Finally… THE ROCK HAS COME BACK…

No, just kidding.

After a couple weeks of waiting and worrying, I finally got our picture of Stephanie and I meeting Nickelback.

Way cool.

Nothing much more to say about it – if you read my previous blog post about it, then you’ve got it all.

So, here’s the pic!

Greatest Jerome Iginla Song EVAR

Posted by jarret on April 24, 2009 in sports |
I was going to entitle this "The Greatest Thing Ever", but then I'd have to keep reusing that title as the next awesome thing I'd find on the internet would become the Greatest Thing Ever, and you, my faithful blog reader, deserve a little more variety in my post titles than that. Anyhoo... my buddy Ryan posted this on his Facebook, and this indeed rivals the Ukranian Katy Perry polka. I'm not the biggest Flames fan ever, but I DO like Jerome Iginla, which makes this video all the more ...continue reading

HOLY FLARKING SNIT!!

Posted by jarret on April 7, 2009 in events, music |
And if I wasn't posting this in a place where my mother could potentially be reading this, you can guarantee the title would be MUCH MUCH more R-rated than that."What's all the hub-bub, bub?" you may ask?I'm talking about Sunday, bloody Sunday. April 5th, 2009. The Day Nickelback Roared Into Town."Ok, you went to a rock concert," you may be thinking. No, my dear friend, it goes WAAAAAY beyond all that. You see, I've been a Nickelback fan since 1998. Ever since I first heard "Fly", "Window Shopper", ...continue reading

You’ve GOTTA See This.

Posted by jarret on March 27, 2009 in music |
Today, I made quite possibly the greatest find in the history of the Internet. And, it came courtesy of the Ellen show! Imagine that. But, I just had to share! Everyone love those goofy Ukranians. And we all know that the Ukranians love their polkas. How can you not love a Ukranian polka? Especially when it's done to the tune of Katy Perry's "Hot N Cold". PURE. GOLD. Anyway, have a look-see. ...continue reading
